How
do solar lights work? A built in solar
panel in the light/fixture gathers energy from the sun. With the
help of a charging circuit a rechargeable battery stores the energy
until it is needed at night. A nighttime sensor lets the fixture
now when it is dark and turns on the light.

How
do you turn Solar Celebrations fixtures on?
They turn on and off automatically. When it gets dark, a special
sensor tells the light it is time to turn on and it will stay
on until the battery is discharged or the sun comes up.

What
advantages do solar lights offer? They require
no wiring or electricity. They don't require installation. You
simply put the light anywhere you would like where it will be
exposed to direct sunlight, and the light will continue to run
with no operational costs.
back to questions
Are
there any disadvantages to solar lighting?
The most obvious limitation is that these lights are dependent
on the sun. The length of time and the strength of the sun determine
how much charge the battery will receive. Short and cloudy days
will decrease the hours these lights will stay on at night. Basically,
the more sun the lights get, the longer the light will stay on
at night. Our solar lights will still work on cloudy winter days,
although the amount of time the lights stay on will be shorter.
Also, it is important to remember that the fixtures need to be
placed so that the solar panel is exposed to the sun. Trees, bushes,
shrubbery, shadows, etc. are all potential limiting factors to
optimum performance.
back to questions
Do
these fixtures require any maintenance?
Besides replacing the battery and keeping the solar cell on the
top of the fixture reasonably clear of debris, there is no maintenance
required, and little that can go wrong with these lights.

How
often do batteries need to be replaced?
For best performance, it is a good idea to replace them once a
year, but the batteries may last as long as 3 years. Replace the
batteries with AA NICAD (Nickel Cadmium) rechargeable batteries.
These are available at most home centers and electronic stores,
such as Radio Shack. These rechargeable batteries will charge
with the solar fixture.
